Intro To The Ice Age Trail

1,147 Miles Across Wisconsin!

Whose ready for a brand new adventure?

I am hiking the entire Ice Age Trail! It is a national scenic trail over one thousand miles across the state of Wisconsin.

This expedition began for me at the eastern terminus is in Potawatomi State Park in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, along Lake Michigan and ends at the western terminus is in Interstate State Park in St. Croix Falls, Polk County, overlooking the St. Croix River in Minnesota.

More than 12,000 years ago, an immense flow of glacial ice sculpted a landscape of remarkable beauty across Wisconsin. As the glacier retreated, it left behind a variety of unique landscape features. These glacial remnants are now considered among the world’s finest examples of how continental glaciation sculpts our planet.

Some backpackers thru-hike the full 1,147 miles, while others hike it in segments; I am the latter, beginning with a 4-day trek of 88.8 miles in some rather cold conditions.

I begin this journey with a fellow pilgrim friend, Jacki, from the Camino de Santiago who is also hungry for adventure! We bring the “Buen Camino” good vibes to this quest in Wisconsin and encourage the spirit of the peregrino here at home.

Portions of this expedition I will walk with friends and family, while others I’ll hike solo. For some segments I will stay in hotels or on couches overnight, and many times I will camp under the stars.

How long will it take me to hike one thousand miles? I don’t know…segment-by-segment I’ll get there sometime in 2021! There are a few other amazing USA trails that I can make my Camino this year as well.

It is my honor and pleasure to take you with me vicariously on adventures around the world…or in my own backyard.
