Fainting Goats

Animals Are Fascinating

A family friend took us on a tour of their Goat Farm and I learned some very interesting things about this unique breed.

Fainting goats suffer from myotonic dystrophy, which is why their muscles seize up and they fall over in a funny manner when excited or frightened.

Sheep farmers originally bred this into goats to protect their herds of sheep. (Packs of coyotes would scare the goats, the goats would faint and the coyotes would attack them vs. the more valuable sheep.)

It was such fun to play with all these curious cuties today.

1:50 in is a fainting goat scene.
